One more commercial (and then I promise I’m done)

I just wanted to let everyone know I will be appearing in a musical in concert this week.

The musical is called Lorelei. It’s the musical based on the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The stage version starred Carol Channing, the movie version starred Marilyn Monroe. (Neither one is in this version.) It does have the song Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend if that helps give you some context.

We are performing at the Shadbolt Centre for the Performing Arts in Burnaby. April 15-18. Shows at 8pm. There is a 2pm Saturday matineee. Tix are $15-22 and can be purchased by calling 604.205.3000.

I am playing the very formidable, very English, Lady Beekman, the possessor of a tiara which Lorelei very much wishes to get her hands on.

The music is cute and the cast is really good. You should come–it will be fun.

I’ll be in Ottawa (which, as you know, is the continual bleating theme of my blog), but I’m so confused! Gentlemen Prefer Blondes started out as a novel, then became a silent film, then became a Broadway musical (starring Carol Channing, of course), then became a Hollywood movie (Jane Russell and Marilyn Munroe). So why turn it into another musical called Lorelei? Copyright problems? Performance fees?

    • Yes, it does have quite a checkered past doesn’t it? Money probably factors into that somewhere. Trying to re-invent a cash cow to make it give milk again?

This musical to me is in the same vein as “Hello Dolly” and “Mame” in that it’s such a star vehicle. Let us all bow down and worship the gloriousness that is Lorelei, that is Dolly, that is Mame.

That being said, it’s still cute and fun, just not high art.

Thanks so awesome! Wish I was even remotely in the area to check it out.
